Update from the Board

Updates from your Phoenix Ski Hill Board of Directors – We have been busy!!
Operation SnowCat
We have secured a ‘new to Phoenix’ Pisten Bully 400 Park Pro
expected delivery is the end of November 2021!!

Duff (our Groomer of the past 2 years) is returning for 2021-2022 and is extremely excited to have an updated machine to work his Phoenix magic! Thanks to everyone who has supported our Operation SnowCat fundraising allowing us to be able to purchase a new SnowCat! We have raised significant funds from our amazing community support of fundraisers and have plans to secure the balance of funds required.
Fundraising has been done by the Community through:
- GoFundMe account
- Bottle Drive
- T-shirt sales
- Welcome Sign sales
- Credit Union Book sales
- Private donations

Season Passes
Early Bird Season Passes in effect until October 31 – Save $$$ by buying early! New online application process (Welcome to the 21st Century!) Link: Phoenix Mountain Season Pass – Phoenix Ski Area (skiphoenix.ca)

Brushing Crews
Brushing Crews headed up by Adam Williams, Sean Routley and Jamie Stewart, as well as the donated tractor time from Don Colclough (driven by John Malins) have been cutting down the overgrowth on the runs and lift lines – take a look at our social media photos on: Phoenix Mountain | Facebook and Phoenix Mountain BC (@skiphoenix) • Instagram photos and videos This provides a better surface for Duff to do his magic early season. Duff says: “Good job everyone, this sure makes my job easier at the beginning of the year!”

T-Bar

You may have noticed some missing T’s last season – Well we have fixed that issue! Grand Forks Credit Union has approved a Grant and other donations will look after the purchase of new T’s. Parts have been ordered and received for the lift maintenance. The lift maintenance and inspections will be completed by early December – in time for all our inspections and ready for early season opening!
Rental Equipment
Through a large donation from Fresh Tracks, a possible funding opportunity and other donations, we are hopeful to replace much, if not all, of our Rental Fleet. This will provide much better enjoyment for all our rental equipment users, including the School Programs.
General Maintenance and Upkeep
You will notice a much cleaner and organized environment overall – thanks to the time and efforts of staff and volunteers. A HUGE thank you to Tom Plotnikoff at HydraClean dealing with an unforeseen issue – who better to clean things up! Even the parking lot has been upgraded with fines donated by Rockwool and trucking from Neil MacGregor!
Covid Policies
The ski/snowboard industry standards are for staff to be double vaccinated; entry to the lodge and concession will require proof of passport. Masks will still be required like last season. The Covid Policy for Phoenix will be completed, approved by the Board, and published by the end of October.
Racer Program
Plans are underway for registration moving to the same online process as we are using for the Season Passes. Plans for this season include racing and timing equipment update, certification and/or re-certification coaches. An addition of an optional day of training will be offered!

The Racer Program is looking for a new coordinator – would you like to assist this well-established program in being organized and ready for 2021-2022? If you are interested in this position, watch for the posting in the near future. More details for registration of the Racers Program will be published by mid-November.
Staffing
We are very fortunate to have James Hall returning in the role of Ski Area Manager. James took over the position in January 2021 and was met with many challenges last season. Proof of his ability to run a good operation is the majority of the staff from last season will be returning. Well done, James!

We are very happy to be welcoming back Kim Nielsen in her role of Lodge/Concession Manager. Kim’s happy demeanour and ability to keep everything running smoothly in the lodge and concession has been missed by everyone. Kim notes the cafeteria menu will be back to its full menu this season. Welcome back Kim!

We have brought in Cathy Astofooroff in the role of Administrator for Phoenix to assist with setting up systems. She has been busy with the new online season pass process, applying for funding, setting up the City of Grand Forks donation process and overall administration, accounting and helping with operations in general for Phoenix Ski Hill.
Maddie Williams is our Social Media Coordinator. Maddie and Sheryl McIver have been supplying the beautiful photos being posted. Maddie is doing a great job of keeping us all informed through Facebook and Instagram!
The seasonal operating positions at the hill are being filled and should be completed by the end of October.
